D’ANGELO KNOWLES

At the age of 3 he lost both parents, one to cancer and the other by abandonment. Thus it was that D’Angelo became the orphaned ward of his maternal grandmother. His grandmother’s passion was cooking and baking and young D’Angelo was joined to her hip. They moved together in the kitchen with him shadowing every move of the woman who he came to know as his real mother. She called him her “right hand man”. Unspeakably tragically, the person who he loved most in this world, died suddenly in the arms of her doting grandson. Left without any means of support, he was unable even to contemplate furthering his education. A big, shy guy with a big, charming smile, he was welcomed into the fold of Chance students, and in memory of his grandmother and to continue the work that he came to love, D’Angelo obtained a degree in Culinary Arts with the goal of opening a chain of bakeries.
